Acoustic Percussion was established in 2011 by Richard Winter. Having been awarded a BA (Hons) from the University of Liverpool in 2000, postgraduate study followed at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), Manchester. Whilst at the RNCM, Richard performed with many notable percussionists including Keiko Abe, Victor Mendoza, Birger Sulsbrück, Eric Sammut, Nancy Zeltsman, Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic, John Beck and Klaus Tresselt. Richard was awarded the Gilbert Webster prize in 2002 and later graduated with a Postgraduate Performance Diploma (PgDip). In 2003 Richard was awarded a Master of Music degree, with Distinction from the RNCM. He has attended the Stevens International Marimba Conference held at Eastman School of Music, Rochester (New York).
In addition to running Acoustic Percussion, Richard enjoys a busy freelance career alongside teaching. He regularly works with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé, Manchester Camerata, Orchestra of the Swan and Raymond Gubbay. Richard has toured extensively throughout Europe and Asia, and has performed several times at the BBC Proms.
In 2016, Richard was elected a Member of the Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain.
